Credo Reference's outbound Resource Links encourage users to explore their library's range of electronic resources — their OPAC, ejournals and more. Credo helps you guide your users to available library resources.

Three types of linking are possible with Credo Reference:

  1. Menu Links
  2. Search Links
  3. Related Resources Links

Menu Links enable you to add any URL to your Credo Reference site—your e-resources page, library catalogue or another resource.

Search Links and Related Resources Links – With one click, these new links enable users to continue their same search in another online resource or the library catalogue. The Search Links appear in a pull-down menu at the top of your Search Results, and the Related Resources Links appear when a Credo entry has been selected.

The first section of the 'Resource Links' page allows you to add links to the top section of your Credo site. These three menu links can be to any URL that you wish. This is a great opportunity for you to promote special events at the library or encourage users to make full use of all the services offered.

Adding links is a three-step process:

  1. Enter the title of the page you would like to link to in the ‘Display Text’ field.
  2. Enter the URL for the page in the 'Link Destination' field. You must include the full URL, starting with http://.
  3. Click 'Save' at the bottom of the page.

Note: Make sure you hit save after every change.

The second section of 'Resource Links' creates links that will enable users to search another resource directly from their Credo search results. (Please contact support@credoreference.com for examples of links.)

  1. Enter the title of the resource or your library catalogue in the 'Display Text' field.
  2. Enter the corresponding URL in the 'Link Destination' field for the target resource.
  3. Click 'Save' at the bottom of the page.

Note: Only one search link field is visible initially. Once you have saved the first URL, a second set of fields will appear and so on. There is no limit to the number of resources you may include.

The third section is for links from within a Credo Reference entry to your chosen 'Related Resources'. The process for setting up resources is the same as for setting up Search Links, but this time we have the option to refine the resources by subject. For instance if you have a Medicine-specific resource, you may want to restrict this related resource to just Medicine. Links to a resource like Medline would only appear while viewing an entry in Credo's Medicine category. Subjects can be selected from the drop-down menu.

  1. Login to Credo's Librarian Admin at http://admin.credoreference.com. You will need your admin username and password. Please contact support@credoreference.com if you need these access details.
  2. Select the top right tab, called 'Customizing Credo Reference', and select 'Resource Links' from the lower menu bar.
  3. The second section of the 'Resource Links' page creates links that will enable users to search another resource directly from their Credo search results. Enter EBSCOhost in the 'Display Text' field. Enter http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&bquery= in the 'Link Destination' field. If you would like to link to a specific EBSCOhost database, please add &db=SPECIFICDBCODE before &bquery= in the 'Link Destination' field. The EBSCOhost database codes are available at http://support.ebscohost.com/knowledge_base/detail.php?id=1255.
  4. The third section of the 'Resource Links' page is for links that will appear on a Credo Reference entry. Enter EBSCOhost in the 'Display Text' field. Enter http://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&bquery= in the 'Link Destination' field. You have the option of including EBSCOhost on all Credo entries or limiting by subject. Select a subject from the drop-down menu to limit.
  5. Click 'Save' at the bottom of the page.
